January 2009: Sealed Up Tight

Rapid Bind knows your direct mail pieces are important. That's why we make sure they are sealed tightly with either fugitive glue or wafer seals prior to transportation through the USPS (United States Postal Service).

Example 1: Fugitive Glue.
Due to oils and resins in fugitive glue, avoid lightweight papers that stain easily. Also avoid placing fugitive glue on heavily inked areas that may cause adhesion problems. Fugitive glue is less noticeable than wafer sealing and can be cost effectively applied inline during folding.

Example 2: Wafer Seals.
Wafer seals can be used on any type of stock and typically suffer fewer adhesion issues than fugitive glue. Wafer seals are visible on the outside of direct mail pieces and therefore must be carefully laid out to avoid detracting attention from the design. Please note that the USPS requires one tab seal at the top of a direct mail piece, but two if the sealed fold is at the bottom (within 1" of the corners).

Whichever closure you choose for your next direct mail piece, the friendly professionals at Rapid Bind are here to help your project run smoothly.
