March 2009: To Multiple-Up, or Not to Multiple-Up?

At Rapid Bind we help our customers plan their projects to save time and money, whenever and wherever possible. On short print runs of a small die cut piece, it's tempting to pack as many up on a sheet as possible. Using a six-up layout versus a two-up layout will yield significant savings in time, money and materials. But you may give those savings right back at the finisher. Take a look at these two die layout images:

Single-Up Layout
Multiple-Up Layout

The cost to produce the multiple-up die for this CD self-mailer may be several times higher than for the one-up die. For a short production run, the cost increase will most likely be too high to justify. A simple adjustment to your print layout may require a few more sheets of paper or board, but the resulting savings in die manufacturing costs will more than make up for it.

Here's the bottom line: Call your friends at Rapid Bind early in the job planning process. We can help you save time and money and, just as importantly, improve your chances of winning more jobs.
